The ordinary use of talcum powder causes exposure to asbestos fibers and can cause mesothelioma. This is one of the conclusions drawn from a recent study published in the International Journal of Occupational and Environmental Health. Ronald E. Gordon, Sean Fitzgerald, and James Millette published the study of a major historic brand of cosmetic talcum powder. Using talcum powder in small closed spaces like average bathrooms may increase the likelihood of inhaling the powder laced with asbestos fibers.
